NRA Chief Range Safety Officer Course

Chief Range Safety Officers (CRSO) train and supervise NRA Range Safety Officers. The CRSO can develop range standard operating procedures. Course prerequisites are required for this course, see below. Course length: 14 hours.

CRSO Candidate Requirements

Course Synopsis: The course is a trainer development course and is presented in two parts: NRA Basic Instructor Training (6 hours) and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer course (9 hours). Students demonstrate organizational and teaching skills through participation in practical exercises during the course, and complete an instructor certification examination. Students will receive the NRA Trainer’s Guide, NRA Range Safety Officer Course lesson plan and NRA Range Safety Officer course student packet. The **course is conducted with a minimum of four (4) candidates. NRA membership is not required, but is recommended. Candidate and Course Requirements: The prospective Chief Range Safety Officer candidate must:
1.) have successfully completed the NRA Basic Range Safety Officer course.
2.) be an NRA Certified Range Safety Officer.
3.) complete and submit the precourse questionnaire. The precourse questionnaire can be completed on-line here: Pre-Course Questionaire.
4.) successfully complete the Basic Instructor Training and NRA Chief Range Safety Officer training. Sessions include standard operating procedures, inspections, emergency procedures, firearm stoppages and malfunctions, safety briefings.
5.) demonstrate organizational and teaching skills via participation in practical exercises.
6.) complete the NRA Basic Instructor Training and NRA Chief Range Safety Course examinations with a minimum score of ninety (90) percent.
7.) attend and participate in both of the days' lessons.
8.) finalize the credentialing process at nrainstructors.org within 30 days after the course report was submitted.

**NRA policy requires that there be at least four (4) participants for the course to be held.

Equipment, Clothing, Fee and Payment



Equipment: The instructor candidate is responsible for providing their own optional eye protection

Clothing: Please wear closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals), a crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline). Long pants are recommended, but not required. During the gun handling exercises, there will be dummy rounds being ejected from the pistols and long guns which may bounce onto you. This clothing will offer you the best protection.

Course Fee Information: The course fee is $175.00 per student.

Payment Options: Accepted forms of payment are: personal check or USPS Money order (Made payable to: Robert D. Soule, Jr.), cash (exact change please). The course fee is expected upon issuance of the course completion certificate.
